Taverna Agora celebrated 20 Years of OPA! It was a night continuing Old World traditions of live bouzouki music, belly dancing, and iconic Green Night energy.
Taverna Agora was once on Glenwood Avenue, before relocating to the downtown location at 326 Hillsborough Street in Raleigh.
Lou Moshakos, founder of LM Restaurants Inc., says the decision to relocate to downtown Raleigh was easy. “Our Glenwood lease was expiring and I was looking for other locations. When 326 Hillsborough Street was presented to me, I knew we had to take it. This area of downtown Raleigh is up and coming and we want to be a part of that growth and excitement in the community.”
The space has two stories, with a cozy dining room and private event space that will seat up to 35 people downstairs, and an open-air patio and bar upstairs, and open daily for lunch and dinner, as well as brunch on Sundays.
The first week Taverna Agora opened at it’s new location, it kicked off a week of fundraising, as Taverna Agora donated 10 percent of its seven days of food sales to the Alexander Family YMCA and their diabetes prevention program, Energize! Energize!, which is a 12-week community education and lifestyle change program for children diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes or pre-diabetes.
